Random Bio Bits

I drove a really long, wood-paneled station wagon in high school. It was, without a doubt, the ugliest car in the student parking lot, although it was good for piling friends in the back (this was before seat-belt laws were enforced).

I share a passion for Broadway with my daughters. We were in New York in line for rush tickets when Grace passed out. We were worried and started to call 911 before she came to and we realized she was fine. But of course, the three of us did not lose our place in line. And we got the tickets.

I loved teaching reading and writing to middle school students, except one day a student threw up in my class, so I instituted “emergency vomit drills” to ensure we could respond at a moment’s notice to any potential incident.

I decided to leave my teaching position at the University of Maryland because I knew that if I kept teaching writing instead of actually writing, I’d never finish the book I needed to write. The Audacity of Sara Grayson is that book.

I played the lead role of Marian the Librarian in my high school musical, The Music Man. It was reported that the kissing scene went on a little long (I did have a mild to moderate crush on Harold Hill at the time).

I taught piano to kids in my neighborhood for several years. I have also taught ESL, gymnastics, Sunday School, dating etiquette, and a ballet class when my daughter’s teacher didn’t show. Honestly, it turned out to be a pretty good ballet class.
